ANOTHER UPDATE July 7, 2009

Filed under: Baby — Lizzy @ 1:37 pm

So tomorrow is the big day.  If I am at 5cm tomorrow, my OB will break my water and get this show started.   YAY!!

I’m not nervous or even excited.  I have gotten my hopes up almost everyday for the past week thinking that I am going into labor and then my contractions just pitter out.  I can’t tell you what hell it is to have consistent, painful contractions for 5 days and have nothing to show for it.  My big fear is that I will go in tomorrow and still be at 3cm and he will send me home.  I’m not leaving without a fight though — there will be tears and begging and any other pride reducing measures that I can take to get him to GET THIS BABY OUT.

Pray, throw some salt, send good vibes…

3cm dilated.  50% effaced.  Random, inconsistant contractions.

I want this baby out.  Now.

Hello… remember me?  I used to blog all the time.  That was back when I had a 9-5 job that had plenty of downtime for things like cruising the JCrew website and dreaming of pants without elastic waistbands, making these never-ending to-do lists and blogging.

That is a thing of the past.

To catch you up, my last day in the corporate world was last Friday (like 9 days ago…) Where have I been you ask?  EVERYWHERE.

Everyday gets so busy between my trips to BabiesRUs (my home away from home), the grocery store for my daily craving(s) and walks or pool time with friends.  Throw in a couple naps, multiple popcicles and wa-la, Jeff is walking through the door and it’s dinnertime.  Where did the day go?!

Now, I know that doesn’t seem like anything in comparison to working a 40 hour week in corporate America, but let me tell you, it’s downright exhausting!  (and yes, I realize I am still baby-less)

Quick baby update:  I am 50% effaced and 1cm dilated.  I am currently typing with one hand and eating super spicy thai food with the other.   I have walks planned with friends all week and I am even considering taking the plunge and getting some s-e-x.  I am clearly desperate to get this baby out.  :)

Quick Lizzy Update:  Small change from my last blog post…I am officially a stay-at-home-mama.  This is a big change and not something we had originally planned, but thanks to a number of unpredicted but positive events, we are able to have me stay at home.  I am not putting an infinity date on my “maternity leave” since I do want to eventually go back to work.  However, I am in search of my life passion and would like to work doing something I love versus fighting deadlines, crazy co-workers and an unpredictable market.  FYI:  I have no idea what my life passion is yet, but I know it will come to me.  Feel free to offer up suggestions!  (Must have flexible hours and not give me grey hairs.)

Thai food is giving me heartburn.  Off to find some Tums.  I will try and schedule in more time to blog in between popcicles and Oprah ;)

xoxo

TUNES June 19, 2009

I was finishing up some of the little details in Carson’s room last night and one of my tasks was to download lullabies onto an iPod that we are putting in the iHome in her room.

We got a CD of lullabies at the baby shower so I downloaded those and then started my search on iTunes.   Can you say o-v-e-r-w-h-e-l-m-i-n-g??

So my question is, what do your kids listen to go to bed?  Lullabies?  Nature sounds?  Womb/White noise?

Please recommend your favorites!!

CARSON’S BOUDOIR June 15, 2009

Filed under: Baby — Lizzy @ 10:44 am

I would like to compare designing a baby room to planning a wedding.

(I would also like to use ”designing”  in the loosest sense of the word)

When I was planning our wedding, I kept trying to find unique touches that made my wedding, while very traditional, different.  Everyone wears a dress, has flowers and says vows.  What was going to make mine stand out from all the rest?  I spent over a year connecting a “theme” throughout every aspect of our wedding — lots of pears to symbolize where we got engaged and a color theme of cranberry and gold.

When we started thinking of what we wanted in Carson’s room, I felt that same urge to make her nursery more unique than the average baby room.  Sure, they all have cribs, changing tables and rocking chairs but what would make her’s unique?  A theme

Ahhh… I got back in wedding planning mode and, complete with excel spreadsheets, I tried to connect a theme of elephants throughout her whole nursery.  The concept of the modern elephant came to me when we were furniture shopping and I saw the bedding set from Carter’s called “pink elephants.”  From there, I’ve designed a nursery, had a baby shower and planned my child’s first outfit all around that theme.  OCD?  I think so.

So, without further adieu, here are the first pictures of Carson’s unique but still very traditional nursery:

Jeff made this ledge under the window for her books but after setting up all 100+ books just to have them fall over multiple times, we went out and bought an actual bookshelf.  I am hoping that works better!  Also, the rocking chair goes in the corner where that little table is, but it hasn’t been delivered yet.

We have 3 elephant prints on canvas that match the same elephant on her laundry hamper that need to be hung above the crib.  However, I’ve moved the furniture around so many times that we are going to wait to put anymore artwork on the walls until I am sure this is the setup I want.

I am so happy with how this monogram turned out!  We found these great letters at an arts and crafts store and then Jeff painted them brown and I polka-dotted them :)

We got this rug last night and I am loving how it pulls the pinks together :)   I still have some organizing to do, but I am just so in love with her room right now.  A huge shout out to Jeff for putting everything together, moving the furniture every time I felt the urge, ironing curtains and facilitating my OCD helping me organize.  You’re the best!

Hope you guys like it, too! :)

THOUGHTS June 12, 2009

Filed under: Baby — Lizzy @ 3:18 pm

what are the chances I will miss my water breaking?  i could be swimming or showering and i just miss it…  what if i have one of those eternally long labors?  what if all my hard work ends up in a c section anyway?  how much more does a c-section cost than a regular birth?  How much does that c-section thing scar? What is a layette and do I need one? how much is childcare? how do people really afford that?  Is my vagina going to rip when this kid comes out? How exactly do stitches in the vagina feel? Where are we putting the crib? Are we supposed to take some sort of parenting class?   what if my kid is an ugly baby?  will i be to obsessed with her to realize it yet everyone else whispers about her being the “ugly baby”?  what if she’s like two weeks late and i have a complete breakdown? what if I don’t realize I am in labor and have this baby on the kitchen floor? what if she hates bows?

My stomach itches. My stomach itches. My stomach itches.

MY LAST DAYS AS A WORKING WOMAN June 12, 2009

I am trying to really enjoy my last days at work.  As such, I cut roses from my front yard and brought them in to make my desk cheerful for my last days.  I think it’s working!

I am so in love with all the bows Karri made for Carson that I had to show all of you:

YAY!  I can’t wait for her to get here!

The best part about her baby beanie is that there is a loop on it so I can mix and match bows to match her outfit of the day.  I also have headbands that the bows can go on just in case she comes out totally bald.  However, if the old wives tale is true and heartburn = hair, this baby should have a amazing curly locks for me to bow-ify!

I LOVE BOWS!!

COUNTDOWN TO CARSON June 12, 2009

Filed under: Baby — Lizzy @ 9:45 am

Hello Friends!

Farewell bummer mood, hello happy Friday!  My darling husband has promised me that the baby room will be ready for Carson by tomorrow and I am having lunch with my preggo friend, Alyssa,  today.  I have a week left of working and I got some really fabulous baby gifts yesterday.  All in all, life is good today!

For starters, here is a picture of me as I take the leap into my 9th month of pregnancy:

35 weeks

I also had a baby shower given by my handbell choir.  :)   These women made some of the most amazing gift including:

DC

This super cool diaper cake!  I am facinated with how it was all put together and now want to make one for a friend.  Fortunately, I have 11 pregnant friends right now so I am sure I will find the opportunity :)

blanket

My bell partner Susann crocheted Carson this beautiful blanket!  I was so excited because gifts like these are priceless and you know she spent a ton of time making it.  Did I mention that she is getting close to 80 and battling cancer?  Makes me love this blanket even more.  We are going to use it in her christening and it’s perfect for that.  I’ll post her christening dresses (yes plural…) another day.

As if anything could top all that, I got home and there was a box on my doorstep.  I LOVE MAIL!  It was the most wonderful gift from my friend Michelle.  I just kept opening more and more wonderful things in this box of fun.  You can see it all (and photographed much better than me!) here.  Karri also sent me my bow order for Carson — I am so happy with how they turned out.  I can’t wait for her to get here so she can start wearing them!  The diaper cake also has a tutu!  You can guarantee you will see some super cute newborn pictures with my baby in a tutu and a big pink bow on her head.  :)

You can tell Karri and Michelle already have babies — she sent me coffee and the most adorable “I heart Carson” travel mug.  Currently getting my caffeine fix out of it as I type and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it at work.   THANKS MICHELLE!!

Off to enjoy my secnod to last Friday at work!

PATHETIC June 11, 2009

Filed under: My Ramblings — Lizzy @ 4:37 pm

I have nothing to say.   Too tired and swollen and pregnant to form a cognitive thought much less write a blog post.

How sad and pathetic is that?

I am, however, going to take pictures tonight of my baby belly since I am hoping this baby comes soon and I don’t want to forget how I looked at my absolute largest :)

Get excited for tomorrow’s post of my 9 month belly!
