I would like to compare designing a baby room to planning a wedding.
(I would also like to use ”designing” in the loosest sense of the word)
When I was planning our wedding, I kept trying to find unique touches that made my wedding, while very traditional, different. Everyone wears a dress, has flowers and says vows. What was going to make mine stand out from all the rest? I spent over a year connecting a “theme” throughout every aspect of our wedding — lots of pears to symbolize where we got engaged and a color theme of cranberry and gold.
When we started thinking of what we wanted in Carson’s room, I felt that same urge to make her nursery more unique than the average baby room. Sure, they all have cribs, changing tables and rocking chairs but what would make her’s unique? A theme.
Ahhh… I got back in wedding planning mode and, complete with excel spreadsheets, I tried to connect a theme of elephants throughout her whole nursery. The concept of the modern elephant came to me when we were furniture shopping and I saw the bedding set from Carter’s called “pink elephants.” From there, I’ve designed a nursery, had a baby shower and planned my child’s first outfit all around that theme. OCD? I think so.
So, without further adieu, here are the first pictures of Carson’s unique but still very traditional nursery:

Jeff made this ledge under the window for her books but after setting up all 100+ books just to have them fall over multiple times, we went out and bought an actual bookshelf. I am hoping that works better! Also, the rocking chair goes in the corner where that little table is, but it hasn’t been delivered yet.

We have 3 elephant prints on canvas that match the same elephant on her laundry hamper that need to be hung above the crib. However, I’ve moved the furniture around so many times that we are going to wait to put anymore artwork on the walls until I am sure this is the setup I want.

I am so happy with how this monogram turned out! We found these great letters at an arts and crafts store and then Jeff painted them brown and I polka-dotted them

We got this rug last night and I am loving how it pulls the pinks together
I still have some organizing to do, but I am just so in love with her room right now. A huge shout out to Jeff for putting everything together, moving the furniture every time I felt the urge, ironing curtains and facilitating my OCD helping me organize. You’re the best!
Hope you guys like it, too!
